Summer Volunteer/Educational Experience
“I just got back to Yale a few days ago. I had a wonderful experience at the Clinic. It was so great to see what you and your team are doing in Peru.”

“I have had the distinct pleasure and privilege of serving at CerviCusco as a student and co-lead faculty. Both experiences have offered countless high points, including practicing cultural sensitivity and awareness, learning about the unique needs of Peruvian women regarding cervical cancer screening and preventative health care, and understanding our role as healthcare workers in improving access, offering support, and delivering equitable, high-quality care to women. As a student traveling to Peru for the first time, I learned about the healthcare system in Peru and connected with faculty and nursing students at Andina University for future collaboration. I also got to go into rural areas and provide home healthcare. As a co-lead faculty, I experienced the excitement and joy of watching students take on their clinical roles and educating them on their journey. CerviCusco has a special place in my heart. From learning the ins and outs of cervical cancer screening, cytology interpretation, the intersection between culture and healthcare, and deeply embedded systemic barriers. I have built unforgettable bonds with the CerviCusco team and have watched the transformation of patient care as a result of this outstanding organization.
I want to emphasize the unique privilege it is to provide global healthcare at CerviCusco. As a first-generation American, I have a lot of family overseas. I have traveled to many places. Peru provides an exceptional learning experience that is filled with beautiful culture and history. This trip is not just for someone interested in women’s health or providing cervical cancer screening but for anyone interested in global health initiatives. Students have the privilege to serve communities around Cusco, Peru who may lack the necessary access to preventative health services. Thank you for taking us in as family and investing in our experiences. I look forward to being back again someday soon.“

Getting involved with the community and doing hands-on work was incredibly fulfilling. This experience really showed me the impact we can have on people’s lives.Thank you all for a wonderful experience and being so welcoming to us!“
