We check all the boxes

What We Offer

We offer a wide range of women’s health and family medicine specialty services. We are particularly proud to be a center of excellence for cervical cancer screening, prevention, diagnosis and management, breast cancer early detection, and cancer survivorship care.

Family Medicine

CerviCusco provides comprehensive medical care services for the whole family. Our Family Medicine services are provided by a board-certified Peruvian Family Medicine specialist. Acute, routine, chronic and preventive health care concerns can be managed by our family physician.

Women’s Health

CerviCusco provides comprehensive women’s health services, delivered by board-certified Peruvian gynecologists, obstetricians, family medicine physicians, nurses, midwives, and visiting international medical experts.

Medical Consultations

CerviCusco provides comprehensive medical consultations to address various health concerns. Visiting international medical experts are also frequently available to provide consultation services.

Ultrasound

CerviCusco has new ultrasound equipment and partners with RAD-AID, an organization that implements sustainable radiology services in underserved areas, to provide expert ultrasound examinations. Test results are reviewed in person and using Artificial Intelligence through Teleradiology. Our four ultrasound machines assist the noninvasive diagnosis of many medical conditions. Ultrasound results are immediately available to our patients.

Laboratory Services

Our state-of-the-art laboratory ensures that patients receive accurate and timely laboratory results – which is a key unmet need in the region. Additional laboratory tests can be easily obtained at CerviCusco and processed through our partner laboratories.

Our on-site laboratory is staffed by Peru’s first cytologist trained and US-certified in the liquid-based Pap testing technology.

CerviCusco operated the first Telepathology Center in Peru, in collaboration with Harvard University in the United States. All diagnosed abnormal Pap tests at CerviCusco were inspected by a panel of cytopathology experts in the US, allowing us to perform high quality control for our Pap tests.

Cancer Survivorship Program

CerviCusco has introduced the first cancer survivorship program in Peru. Our physicians develop a treatment summary and survivorship care plan for interested patients with a history of breast and cervical cancer. In addition, individuals are evaluated for common post-treatment physical and emotional problems. We offer referrals to other important supportive well being services including spiritual, psychological/ counseling, social, physical rehabilitation/exercise, and nutritional care.

Rural Health Campaigns

CerviCusco extends multidisciplinary health care to Peruvians living in the rural areas of the Andes Mountains of Peru. Our healthcare team provides cervical and breast cancer screening, in addition to family medical care, in distant, isolated communities.

HPV Vaccination

CerviCusco offers contemporary cervical cancer prevention through the HPV vaccine. The quadrivalent HPV vaccine (Gardasil) can reduce the risk of cervical cancer by 70%. It is currently administered in many countries to boys and girls 9-26 years old and in women up to 45 years old.

Pap Testing

CerviCusco was the first health care facility in Peru to offer modern liquid-based Papanicolaou (Pap) tests. Papanicolaou (Pap) tests are done for screening cervical cancer and pre-cancers. It detects changes in the cells of the cervix (the mouth of the womb) that are not normal. The test involves taking a small sample of cells from the cervix, usually during a routine pelvic exam. The cells are sent to a laboratory where they are prepared and evaluated under a microscope. The liquid-based Pap test is more accurate in detecting cervical cancer than the older conventional Pap test used throughout Peru. We use a vastly improved method to collect, process and evaluate these superior Pap tests. We also perform routine quality control testing, not commonly done elsewhere in Peru.

Electrosurgery

CerviCusco offers our patients modern, office-based, fertility-sparing electrosurgery of precancerous cervical lesions, instead of cryotherapy or a hysterectomy. Cervical pre-cancers are caused by an HPV infection. If the immune system does not eliminate HPV from the body, pre-cancers develop. Mild pre-cancers or CIN1 do not require treatment. Rather, in 90% of cases, these lesions are cured by the immune system. However, moderate to severe cervical precancers, CIN2 and CIN3, are less like to resolve spontaneously, and can eventually evolve into cancer. Therefore, moderate to severe pre-cancers must be treated to prevent the development of cervical cancer.

Electrosurgical loop excision is one type of surgical treatment to remove abnormal cells from the cervix. A small wire loop instrument, using a special electrical current, is used to remove abnormal tissue from the cervix. Usually one to two small pieces of the cervix (about the size of a thimble you put on your finger when sewing) are removed. These samples are sent to a pathologist to make sure all of the abnormal cells are removed and to check and see if more serious disease is present. Following loop excision, normal cells slowly replace the area where the abnormal cells were located.

Colposcopy

Colposcopy is a diagnostic test to evaluate women with abnormal Pap test results. Cervical lesions can be identified during colposcopy and biopsies can be obtained to confirm the diagnosis. The results of the colposcopy examination help determine proper management. CerviCusco offers internationally renowned colposcopy services.

Early Breast Cancer Detection

CerviCusco offers high resolution screening and diagnostic breast ultrasound examinations for patients with symptoms or signs suggestive of breast cancer. Images are interpreted at CerviCusco and also through Teleradiology by experts in the United States. In addition, we provide Artificial Intelligence review of breast images to improve interpretations and quality control.
