Center of Excellence for Cervical Cancer Prevention

CerviCusco offers contemporary cervical cancer prevention through the HPV vaccine. The quadrivalent HPV vaccine (Gardasil) can reduce the risk of cervical cancer by 70%. It is currently administered to boys and girls 9-26 years old.

CerviCusco was the first health care facility in Peru to offer modern liquid-based Papanicolaou (PAP) tests. The liquid-based PAP test is more accurate in detecting cervical cancer than the older conventional PAP test. We use a vastly improved method to collect, process and evaluate these superior PAP tests. We also perform routine quality control testing, not commonly done elsewhere in Peru.

For quality control, all abnormal cervical cytology samples are reviewed by experts in the US through Telepathology (on a weekly basis). Telepathology is a modern method to allow pathology experts to remotely provide expert consultations. For example, a slide containing an abnormal Pap test can be placed under a microscope that has a camera connected to a computer. The video image of the abnormal Pap test can then be sent through  the internet to experts for consultation. These experts can then evaluate the Pap slide immediately and offer their diagnosis from thousands of miles away.
CerviCusco provides internationally-renowned diagnostic colposcopy examinations for women with abnormal PAP test results.
CerviCusco offers state-of-the-art microsurgery for treatment of cervical pre-cancers and other lesions.
